AU GRES, MI - The Au Gres-Sims School District received grants totaling $69,427.20 from the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe at the Spring 2% distribution ceremony at the Saganing Eagle’s Landing Outreach Center in Standish, Michigan.
The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe awarded a total of six instructional grant requests that were authored by the school district. The awarded grants included instructional enhancement technology tools, replacement band instruments, middle school culture rewards, and one-to-one chromebook technology.. Of significant note was the allocation of $36,250 for dual enrollment. AGS partners with Delta College and Alpena Community College to provide high school students the opportunity to earn both high school and college credit simultaneously, without it costing a dime to students.
At Tuesday’s ceremony, Au Gres-Sims Superintendent, Chris Ming, expressed his gratitude to the tribal council and thanked the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe for the strong partnership that they have with the Au Gres-Sims School District. Ming stated, “These grants provide an opportunity for our students not just now but into their futures. With the chance to take up to ten dual enrollment classes, and earn in excess of 30 college credits, our students can begin their careers without the added burden of debt. This can only happen because of the tremendous partnership that Au Gres-Sims has with the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.”
