AU GRES-SIMS ANNOUNCES SINKING FUND PROPOSAL ON THE NOVEMBER 3RD BALLOT

The 2026-27 school year is well underway and once again our halls and classrooms are filled with staff and students. Over the summer months our district completed three construction projects scheduled for 2026. These included a new elementary roof, air exchange units for the innovation labs and kitchen, and new home and away bleachers for the stadium. These projects were paid from the district’s general fund balance.

On November 3, 2026, voters in the Au Gres-Sims School District will decide on a proposal to create a sinking fund. If approved and levied, the proposal would authorize the district to levy up to 1.18 mills ($1.18 for each $1,000 of taxable value) for 10 years, from 2026 through 2035.

The district estimates that the levy would generate approximately $376,824 in 2026. The district could use this money only for purposes authorized by law, including the categories identified in the ballot language.

The development of the district’s sinking fund proposal involved an infrastructure study of our campus, consultation with school construction firms, discussions with staff, and input from community focus groups. This process started in spring 2025, continued throughout the 2025-2026 school year, and included multiple community input sessions.

To provide factual information about the proposal, a webpage has been created, addressing many frequently asked questions, identifying potential projects, and estimating the cost impact to taxpayers. That webpage is linked to from the main page, but may also be visited directly at: ags-schools.org/page/2026-sinking-fund.

Au Gres-Sims encourages all members of the community to use the resources at their disposal to learn about the ballot proposal for the 2026 Sinking Fund, and to ask any questions they have. We want all constituents to understand what the proposal would authorize and to exercise their right to vote on November 3.
